MIKE SMITH | BDO Canada
 
What is your position / title and company, and what do you do there?
I am a Senior Manager at BDO Canada, in our Financial Advisory Service Group. I specialize in preparing business valuation reports for tax, matrimonial, and other purposes. I also perform loss quantifications and expert reports for litigation purposes, as well as help people buy and sell local businesses in the Okanagan.
 
How long have you been in the Okanagan? If you aren’t originally from the valley, what led you to call the Okanagan ‘home’? 
I was born in Calgary, but was raised in Penticton from the age of five. I moved to Kelowna to attend Okanagan College School of Business in 2006 and have called Kelowna home ever since.

 
What do you enjoy most about your Ambassador role with the Kelowna Chamber?
I enjoy learning about new local businesses and supporting businesses within my community. I believe this is now more important than ever and it has been very fulfilling and rewarding to be involved with a great group of like-minded ambassadors, staff, and volunteers at the Kelowna Chamber.
 
What are you looking forward to / planning for the future?
I plan to explore more of the amazing province that we live in, including more camping, skiing, and another long canoe trip this year. I hope to further my career with BDO, help more clients at transitional points in their life, gain more experience, and continue to be involved in our local community.
